Cozy Morning Routine for Busy Moms

Some mornings in motherhood can tend to feel rushed, loud, and overwhelming before the day even begins. You are running through everything you need to get done for that day in your head and trying to fit everything in your schedule like you are playing Tetris.

I used to wake up already feeling behind but, overtime I’ve discovered that a simple routine can really shift the tone of the day.

Not perfect.

Not rigid.

Just calm and intentional.

Here’s what has been helping me start my mornings with a bit more peace and relaxation.

1. Waking Up Before the House Gets Busy

I try to wake up just a little bit before everyone else. Nothing crazy. You don’t have to lose out on your precious sleep, but even just 20 minutes earlier can make a huge difference in feeling like you have more control over your day.

Sometimes I sit with tea.

Sometimes I just sit in the quiet and appreciate how still it can be.

2. Reading Something Encouraging

Rather than scrolling my phone, I try to read a few pages of something uplifting. I feel that it is so important to start your day off with positivity, as it sets the tone for the day and allows you to feel more at ease.

It could be:

  • A devotional
  • A few inspirational quotes or lines
  • A calming book that you enjoy reading

This helps my mind feel peaceful instead of overwhelmed.

3. Doing One Small Reset Task

Instead of trying to tackle every task all at once, I do one simple task like:

  • Starting laundry
  • Unloading the dishwasher so that it is ready to be filled throughout the day
  • Tidying the living room
  • Picking up toys that might have gotten left out from the night before

Taking it one task at a time really helps the house to feel calmer and the tasks to seem more manageable.

4. Letting the Sunlight In

Opening the curtains or blinds and letting in that natural light of the morning come into the house, helps me to wake up. It also helps the house to feel happier and more peaceful because it allows the house to not be all dark but instead relaxing and warm.

Final Thoughts

Mornings don’t have to feel chaotic from the start or like you are feeling rushed throughout your day. I do understand those moments still occur because, life happens. I think it is important though to take the quiet and calm where you can get it. Even just a few small changes can allow you some quiet moments in the morning so that can start the day off feeling ready and prepared.

What helps you start your morning calmly?

I’d love to hear in the comments.
